Breath for the Mangrove: A Gender-Responsive and Ecosystem-Based Rehabilitation of the Nickerie River-Banks Grant project Suriname Stichting Het Moederhart Stichting Het Moederhart GHFS A total of 1,297 kg (1.297 metric tonnes) of anthropogenic waste was removed from the mangrove root zone and responsibly disposed of or transferred, contributing to improved environmental conditions within the mangrove ecosystem. Additionally, 0.98 hectares of riverbank along the stretch from Waterloo Lock to the river mouth were rehabilitated through community-led environmental activities. These activities engaged 12 individuals, comprising 4 females (33.3%) and 8 males (66.7%). To strengthen local capacities for environmental monitoring, data collection and results reporting, 55 persons received training in Enquête- en Impact Rapportage (Survey and Impact Reporting). Collectively, these achievements demonstrate progress in mangrove ecosystem rehabilitation, waste management, community engagement and local capacity strengthening for environmental monitoring and reporting. 36% 67 24 43 12 In progress 30%
Empowering Saamaka Youth for Climate-Resilient Landscapes and Locally Driven Solutions Grant project Suriname Stichting Tropenbos International Suriname Stichting Tropenbos International Suriname GHFS The project Empowering Saamaka Youth for Climate-Resilient Landscapes and Locally Driven Climate Action contributed to strengthening youth leadership, climate resilience and community-driven environmental action in Suriname. A total of 8 youth successfully completed capacity-building training covering climate-smart practices, sustainable forest management, leadership and communication skills. The training sought to enhance young people's knowledge and competencies to participate meaningfully in sustainable landscape management, environmental monitoring and locally led climate action. The project also established one functional youth group comprising 7 Saamaka youth, including 4 females (57.1%), providing an organised platform for youth participation, leadership and engagement in community-based climate initiatives. Furthermore, more than 2,056 people were reached through communication products and awareness campaigns, contributing to wider dissemination of information on climate resilience, sustainable forest management and environmental stewardship. Collectively, these achievements demonstrate progress in strengthening youth capacities and promoting female participation in climate leadership. 57% 8 4 4 In progress 30%
