The number of projects that complete milestones and outputs is a critical aspect of project management for CORE-funded work and overall fund management of the Gender Smart Facility (GSF). Once grant-making mechanisms are in place and funds are being distributed to NCTFs and EWROs and then allocated to projects that meet the requirements as set out by the call for proposals or other pathways, grantees and NCTFs are expected to provide a level of oversight to ensure that projects are being executed properly. Simple project monitoring provides a structured framework that helps grantees’ staff to make informed decisions (see the “Project management” sheet for a template that NCTFs and EWROs can use to track the implementation of milestones and outputs). Monitoring milestone achievement also allows for early identification of potential issues or delays. This proactive approach, enables stakeholders to take corrective actions and mitigate risks before they escalate. Tracking the number of projects achieving their milestones may also help fund managers make decisions about resource allocation. For example, projects that consistently achieve milestones may warrant additional resources, while those struggling to meet milestones may require adjustments, sunsetting or additional support. This figure should be reported annually, and is not cumulative over time (because projects tend to span multiple years). In cases where a project’s outputs and milestones may change within the course of a year, the milestone/outputs reporting should be amended to reflect this.
